BICENTENÁRIO DE INDEPENDÊNCIA
"Nasce o sol ao 2 de julho, bilha mais que no primeiro..."
Em 2023, o bicentenário de independência da Bahia completou 200 anos. Observando a relevância histórica e social dessa data, em meio aos festejos desse ano, no ano anterior, no momento de concepção de coleção, sugeri que esse fosse o mote anual da marca.
A independência da Bahia em 2 de Julho de 1823, marca a verdadeira independência do Brasil, quando de fato, o país se torna livre do domínio das forças portuguesas, portanto, ao trazer esse tema, meu desejo era usar a projeção da marca pra contar essa história, por muitos esquecida.

In 2023, the bicentennial of Bahia's independence turned 200 years old. Observing the historical and social relevance of this date, amidst the festivities of that year, the previous year, during the conception of the collection, I suggested that this be the brand's annual theme.
The independence of Bahia on July 2nd, 1823, marks the true independence of Brazil, when the country actually became free from the dominion of Portuguese forces. Therefore, by bringing up this theme, my desire was to use the brand's projection to tell this story, forgotten by many.

Planejada para ser lançada em março, a estampa foi pensada pra homenagear as mulheres envolvidas nessa batalha. A luta pela independência da Bahia é peculiar no que diz respeito ao registro de mulheres na história, algo incomum. Em geral a história tem grandes nomes masculinos. Aqui entra em cena: Maria Quitéria, Maria Felipa, Joana Angélica e Luísa Mahin como representantes dessas mulheres e grandes heroínas históricas.

Planned for release in March, the print was designed to honor the women involved in this battle. The fight for Bahia's independence is unique in that it records women in history, something uncommon. In general, history features great male figures. Here, Maria Quitéria, Maria Felipa, Joana Angélica, and Luísa Mahin emerge as representatives of these women and great historical heroines.
O Fio da Liberdade: A Estampa "Marias, Joanas e Luísas"
As "ganhadeiras" — mulheres, em sua maioria negras, que sustentavam suas comunidades vendendo quitutes como o acarajé, lavando roupas e costurando "de ganho" — foram as verdadeiras arquitetas da emancipação de seu povo. Com o suor de seus ofícios, elas não apenas compravam suas próprias alforrias e as de seus familiares, mas também atuaram de forma crucial na Independência da Bahia. Elas financiaram a luta, garantiram o abastecimento de alimentos e serviram como uma rede vital de inteligência e comunicação para as tropas que expulsaram as forças coloniais.
A estampa "Marias, Joanas e Luísas" reverencia essa força ancestral através do design. A escolha estética de um traço que simula uma linha bordada atua como uma metáfora visual direta: assim como essas mulheres alinhavaram a liberdade de seu povo e teceram a vitória baiana, ponto a ponto, a textura visual do bordado constrói a narrativa de resistência, autonomia e poder que esta criação carrega.
The Thread of Freedom: The "Marias, Joanas and Luísas" Print
The "ganhadeiras" — mostly Black women who supported their communities by selling snacks like acarajé, washing clothes, and sewing "for a living" — were the true architects of their people's emancipation. With the sweat of their labors, they not only bought their own freedom and that of their family members, but also played a crucial role in Bahia's Independence. They financed the struggle, ensured food supplies, and served as a vital network of intelligence and communication for the troops that expelled the colonial forces.
The "Marias, Joanas and Luísas" print reveres this ancestral strength through design. The aesthetic choice of a line that simulates an embroidered stitch acts as a direct visual metaphor: just as these women stitched together the freedom of their people and wove the Bahian victory, stitch by stitch, the visual texture of the embroidery builds the narrative of resistance, autonomy, and power that this creation carries.
